Harry Potter books to be auctioned on December 15!

On December 15, Sotheby’s is to hold an auction entitled English Literature, History, Children’s Books and Illustrations. Amongst the items to be sold are a few Rowling-related ones.

One of the main books to be auctioned is a first edition of the deluxe version of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone as illustrated by Jim Kay with a new drawing and a signature from the illustrator, and another signature from J.K. Rowling. The book comes with a tote bag, and a letter of provenance. The estimated price is between £2,000 and £3,000.

Two other notable items are preliminary drawings by Cliff Wright. One is from Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets and its estimated price is between £2,000 and £3,000. The other is from Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban and its estimated price is between £3,000 and £5,000.

Other items offered are a first edition of the paperback version of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone (£2,000-£3,000), two signed first editions of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (£2,000-£3,000), a proof copy of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (£1,500-£2,000) and a complete set of the deluxe Bloomsbury editions (£2,000-£3,000).
